Cotswold District in the Second World War

This free, family-friendly exhibition marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. It will share objects, photographs and stories that tell the story of Cirencester, the surrounding district and its residents, between 1939 and 1945. There will be lots of activities for children, including a chance to send secret messages via Morse Code using a spy radio, exploring how local defences such as Tank Traps worked, and packing their own evacuee suitcase. Illuminating the Year: medieval calendar lore re-imagined

The medieval Christian calendar combined agricultural labours, saints’ legends and the Zodiac to create a story- and marvel-rich view of the passing year. Responding to the collaborative workshop practices of medieval artists, illustrators Hebe George, Lou Boulter and Polly Alizarin Harvey have worked together and with author Amy Jeffs to create a mesmerising cycle of images and words, bringing to the familiar wheeling of the seasons a delightful wealth of strangeness.
