Marvellous Mythological Marionettes
Join Caroline McCatty to make a marvellous magical faun marionette. Using twigs and recycled items you will create your mythical faun which can come to life with a twitch or flick of your fingers. Suitable for 7 to 11 year-olds

During this workshop you will create a Roman shield and sword so that you feel as ready as a real Roman soldier to venture into the world to do battle. This creative workshop is inspired by archaeology from the Roman fort and from tombstones of Roman cavalrymen. Family Drop-in Session
Get crafty at our family drop-in sessions and come away with a unique piece of art inspired by the museum. It is a great way to stimulate creativity and imagination, while learning a little about history. Activities may vary, but most will include colouring, cutting and sticking. All materials will be provided, as well as guidance and help if needed. No need to pre-book, just arrive between 11am and 12pm and pay for the session when you buy your entry…

People have been making pottery for thousands of years, and in this workshop you will learn what techniques ancient Bronze Age people used to decorate their distinctive beakers, and try your hand at making your very own vessel. After exploring the prehistory galleries for inspiration, get creative and decorate your pot with natural materials such as: sticks, string, and even your own fingernails! All materials are provided. Brooches are a prevalent feature in our collection because they were not only beautiful, but also practical. Let your imagination take flight in our Pom Pom Owl Workshop! Learn about the Roman goddess of wisdom Minerva and her sacred owl. Take a look at some real Roman artefacts linked to Minerva that were found in Cirencester. Then make your own Pom Pom Owl to take home. A day of re-enactment with the Ermine Street Guard. Watch battle formations in the museum’s Hare gallery, hear about the soldier’s kit, daily life and weaponry. Children will have the chance to take part in a Soldier School and there will be living history tables for you to meet Roman soldiers and people around the galleries. Get ready to learn more about Roman military and bring a camera to have your picture taken with a Roman soldier! Included in admission
