Corinium Museum is committed to reducing its carbon impact by meeting environmental standards in line with Freedom Leisure’s Net Zero Policy 2023.

Measures we take include:

  • Reducing electricity and gas consumption
  • Reducing landfill waste by recycling more
  • Reducing water use
  • Informing the public of green travel options
  • Meeting national accreditation standards through achieving ISO14001
  • Making necessary adjustments to the building including low energy lighting and controls, installing energy efficient heating systems and air conditioning, maintaining our modern sanitation systems
  • Ensuring museum staff are informed and trained in all aspects of environmental awareness
  • Having an Environmental Sustainability Policy that incorporates company values, national initiatives and local plans

Recent Successes

We have:

  • Upgraded lighting in the temporary exhibition space with assistance from Cotswold District Council
  • Installed PIRs (motion sensor lighting) in the activities room used by hundreds of schools each year
  • Removed the oil-fired heating at our off-site store and replaced this with energy efficient heat pumps with assistance from Cotswold District Council

And

  • Our new Prehistory and Early Roman galleries and the Winstone Learning Centre meet the latest environmental standards
  • We achieved a DEC B rating in 2021-22, which is exceptional for a public building
