Corinium Museum appoints new Director

Corinium Museum has appointed Emma Stuart as its new Museum Director.

Emma, who has worked at the museum for over 14 years enthuses, “I’m absolutely thrilled to take up the role of Museum Director. The museum is, without question, one of the best in the country and the collections are magnificent. During my time at the museum, I have been lucky enough to work in partnership with organisations across the town, the region and nationally and look forward to developing these further to celebrate the rich heritage of Cirencester and the Cotswolds.”

Emma has a wealth of experience and knowledge in cultural development within the museums and heritage sector. Her educational background bridges the fields of archaeology and history being an alumni of the Universities of Manchester, Liverpool and Leicester. Within the museum, she has developed her knowledge of the mosaic collections having recently launched a new guide to the mosaics in the Corinium Museum. Career highlights include television appearances on BBC’s Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip, a publication about Chester during the Second World War and a NADFAS award-winning project, in collaboration with a local artist, engaging teenage audiences with the Corinium Museum collections. She has delivered lectures on many aspects of the museum collections and even hosts an annual walk exploring the spooky aspects of Cirencester.

Emma continues, “My vision is to navigate the museum through various changes that lie ahead and raise the profile of the internationally significant collections. I want to explore ways in which the rich archaeology and social heritage of the Cotswolds can be shared with even more people and I’m looking forward to working with the fantastic team here to develop projects, events and partnerships that allow us to build on Corinium Museum’s award-winning status.”

Emma takes up the role of Museum Director from 1st January 2023.
