Corinium Musuem Says Goodbye to its Director

Today we said goodbye to our Museum Director Amanda Hart.

Amanda began her time at Corinium Museum as Education Officer in 2001. In 2011 she became Curator and then Museum Director from 2013. She has been one of the longest serving staff members and one of the longest serving managers of Corinium Museum.

Under Amanda’s leadership the museum has won numerous awards, received hundreds of archaeological archives from throughout the Cotswold District, and has received many grants including recently the Arts Council England resilience grant, which paid for the rebranding of the museum.

Amanda was at the museum in 2004 when it reopened followed a large scale capital project to redevelop the Roman galleries.

But Amanda’s crowning achievement has been the recent redevelopment of the museum’s prehistoric and early Roman galleries. The project saw a redisplay of material and the introduction of newly acquired artefacts, doubling the number of objects on display. This includes the public’s favourite, Rusty the Iron Age dog. The shop, reception desk and art gallery were all redesigned.

The project was paid for with funds from the National Heritage Lottery, The Winstone Trust, generous public donations, Cotswold District Council and a great many grant giving bodies. The project would not have been possible without the successful partnerships that Amanda has helped the museum to build over the years.

Before the project finished and the galleries reopened, the pandemic meant that staff were furloughed and the project was delayed. Amanda continued to work tirelessly to oversee the completion of the works.

In January 2022 Amanda will begin as the manager of the Roman Baths and Pump Rooms in Bath and we wish her all the very best.

An announcement on Amanda’s replacement will be made in due course.
