Laurel wreath (Latin: laurea coronatus)
This is a head dress usually made from woven laurel leaves. It was worn on the head or around the neck. It’s a symbol of triumph for Roman commanders, given to winners of ancient games, like the Olympics, or worn by very important people. Julius Caesar wore a laurel wreath to show that he was a powerful leader and Emperor Tiberius wore one to protect him from being struck by lightning as it was thought that lightening never struck a laurel tree.
