What is Missing from the Bayeux Tapestry? Evening Lecture with Dr David Musgrove

November 25, 2021 , 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

£6.50 – £7.50

This talk will unravel the story told in the Bayeux Tapestry, but will also consider what is not shown, and why. As it stands, the Tapestry presents a binary conflict between Harold and William for the English throne in 1066, putting to one side other events and happenings. David argues that this is purposeful, advantageous to both men, and designed to create a narrative that helps the English accept William as their king.

Dr David Musgrove is content director of BBC History Magazine and the History Extra podcast and website. He has written, with Professor Michael Lewis, The Story of the Bayeux Tapestry: Unravelling the Norman Conquest (Thames and Hudson).
