May 26, 2022 , 10:00 am - June 26, 2022 , 5:00 pm

Exhibition Beleas Knap - cover image

This exhibition showcases twenty years of exploration at Belas Knap long barrow. Artist, Elizabeth Poraj-Wilczynska, shares her observations using form, shape, colour, texture, light, feel, space and resonance. Her works, in the words of Professor Timothy Darvill, encourage people to ‘question conventional perspectives and use the archaeological imagination to open up new realms of thinking, experience and understanding.’

An immersive film recording sunrise and sunset at Belas Knap long barrow has been created by Richard Suckling of cavebearfilms.com and accompanies the exhibition.

Liz Poraj-Wilczynska is an artist and archaeographer who trained as an archaeological illustrator and has worked on archaeological sites throughout the county. In recent years she has broadened the scope of her work, overlaying archaeology with photography, painting, personal experience and social perspective. Liz investigates Genius Loci, sense of place and presence using insights to interact with the ghost landscape of the past. She co-authored ‘Disciplines of Dowsing’ with Tom Graves and also contributed a chapter to the recent publication, ‘Art in the Archaeological Imagination’ edited by Dragos Gheorghiu.
