Get crafty at our family drop-in sessions and come away with a unique piece of art inspired by the museum. It is a great way to stimulate creativity and imagination, while learning a little about history. Activities may vary, but most will include colouring, cutting and sticking. All materials will be provided, as well as guidance and help if needed. No need to pre-book, just arrive between 11am and 12pm and pay for the session when you buy your entry…

People have been making pottery for thousands of years, and in this workshop you will learn what techniques ancient Bronze Age people used to decorate their distinctive beakers, and try your hand at making your very own vessel. Roman Soldier Re-enactment Day

A day of re-enactment with the Ermine Street Guard. Watch battle formations in the museum’s Hare gallery, hear about the soldier’s kit, daily life and weaponry. Children will have the chance to take part in a Soldier School and there will be living history tables for you to meet Roman soldiers and people around the galleries. Get ready to learn more about Roman military and bring a camera to have your picture taken with a Roman soldier! Included in admission

Macmillan Celebrated The Royal Ballet Live

Danses Concertantes, commissioned by Ninette de Valois in 1955, was MacMillan’s first major work. An early sign of the incredible artistic output that would follow, the work’s critical success spurred MacMillan to abandon performing in favour of choreography.
