Ceramic loom weight

Image of Ceramic loom weight

Description
Clay loom weight, Iron Age, found at Bourton on the Water. This was found while digging graves at Bourton on the Water cemetery, approximately 45cm below the ground surface. Loom weights were used to keep the strands of a loom taught and, although none of the cloth they produced survived, it gives us an idea of the types of weaving they did at this time, as well as the fact they were weaving at all.
