In Gloucestershire POWs were used in shipyards, quarries and in agriculture: twenty POW camps were opened, including at Cirencester. This illustrated lecture by Dr Colin R Chapman describes the background to the WW1 POW system, with particular reference to Gloucestershire, and commemorates the true ending of WW1 – the Versailles Peace Treaty of 26 June 1919.
