Cultures & Creatures

Thu 29 May , 10:00 am - Sun 29 June , 5:00 pm

Helen and Leslie met a fair few years ago at Sheffield University. Finding themselves both in Gloucestershire, they talked increasingly about their creative activities of painting and photography. They are inspired by their travels, with Leslie on safari photographing the most beautiful wild creatures and Helen’s paintings reflecting the cultures and landscapes she’s experienced. Now they are collaborating on the exhibition at the Corinium Museum.

Helen’s favourite medium is water-based painting, working in both watercolour and acrylic and she is inspired by the light, colours and textures of diverse cultures and landscapes – from hills and mountains to dramatic seascapes and skies to buildings and colourful gardens.

Helen has exhibited at various venues including The Belfry Golf Club, Baunton Manor, Ampney Park, Tetbury Pop Up, Art House Open Studios, Jersey Galleries at Osterley Park and a Summer Show at 54 The Gallery, London; a wide range of patrons have commissioned works over the years, including from Australia, New Zealand and the US.

AlxCeramx, or Alex Holmes to go by what most of the world call her, is a Leeds-based ceramicist influenced by organic forms and the quirkiness clay as a medium allows for. When she isn’t pottering, she’s a lecturer at the University of Leeds in Pharmacology.
