Egyptian Mummy Peg Dolls

No need to keep this activity under wraps! Let’s celebrate the season with a friendly and historical ghoul. These adorable Egyptian peg dolls will delight and entertain, and don’t forget to bring your mummy!

‘Unplugged’ and ‘When I Grow Up’

Special Family Event with Steve Antony (author and illustrator)

Tuesday 24 October, 10.30-12pm

Children’s author Steve Antony visits the museum to celebrate the launch of his new books ‘Unplugged’ about enjoying outdoors and ‘When I Grow Up’ which is from Matilda the Musical, written by Tim Minchin. Join Steve for an interactive reading of his books and create ‘story stones’ whilst learning how to write and illustrate a great story. Take time to look around the museum for inspiration if you wish.

Waterstones will be selling copies of Steve’s books and he will be happy to sign books after the event.

Incredible Insects

Children’s Workshop with Cath Hodsman

Wednesday 25 October, 10-1pm

A wonderful opportunity for young insect fans to get up close and personal with incredible insects. Using high powered microscopes, you will see and draw insects like you never have before; from the wing of a butterfly to the eye of a ladybird.

All expert tuition and information provided.

Be a Medieval Monk

Thursday 26 October, 10.30-12pm

How did monks at Cirencester Abbey live 900 years ago? This workshop recreates a monastic day in miniature. Wear a monk’s habit, make a manuscript to take home, learn about medieval saints, herb gardens & medicine, and pray like it’s 1117.

Medieval monks made encyclopaedias of animals and birds, both real and mythical. Join us to create your own Bestiary, drawing animals from the local winter landscape and animals from your imagination. Make a winter bestiary to take home.

Roman Soldier Peg Doll

March into the museum and soldier out with your own Roman legionnaire! This directed activity will allow your child the creativity to design their own implements, and learn a bit about Cirencester’s Roman military.

Ever wonder how Romano-British children passed the time? Put down those gaming devices and come along to make an authentic Roman game that will entertain for hours. ‘Trouble at the Museum!’

Special Family Event with Tracey Corderoy

Thursday 5 April, 10.30-12pm      

Author of Hubble Bubble and Shifty McGifty, Tracey Corderoy visits the museum to share an interactive reading from her books ‘Shifty McGifty’ and ‘Baddies, Beasties and a Sprinkling of Crumbs.’ Be inspired by Henrig Crumb and create your own invention or museum object for book marks to take home.

Roman Draw

Join James to draw amazing artefacts from the secret museum store. See Stone Age and Roman objects up close. Materials will be provided but feel free to bring any art equipment and a sketchbook. This is a relaxed, fun and friendly workshop with gentle guidance if needed.
